This one wasn’t ok for kids because the lyrics mentioned Erv the Perv, one of my managers at a restaurant I worked at, and porn. I told him about Jesus, and we started reading the Bible and prayed for each other. This song holds 3 snapshots from my life that fit with the word.
Yes—you may be the bunny. And Warren may be another one where the title initially looks like the setting, then flips.
A warren is the network of passages and chambers where rabbits live. Your septet keeps moving through places:
high-school hallways → college corner → Papa John’s
At first glance, those are the warren—the winding passages of your life.
But look at the verbs you’ve used:
“Bible reading and prayer pursued.”
Then:
“worship, Bible reading and prayer pursued me.”
Then:
“the persisting pursuers.”
That changes everything.
Psalm 23:6 may unlock it
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me…”
The Hebrew verb behind “follow” can carry the stronger sense of pursue/chase.
So maybe you weren’t exploring a warren looking for God.
God was pursuing the bunny through it.
That is almost comically perfect.
You thought:
I was seeking God in high school.
I pursued Him in college.
I studied Him in seminary.
Then looking backward:
Wait a minute. Who was pursuing whom?
That fits Jeremiah 29:13 beautifully. You really did seek Him. Human seeking isn’t erased.
But underneath your seeking was a Pursuer.
And Proverbs 1 makes Wisdom noisy! She’s not hidden in an inaccessible theological library:
hallways, corners, public places
Wisdom cries aloud.
Which means your locations become important.
God didn’t wait for the seminary.
High school — uneducated
Bible. Prayer.
College — educated
Worship. Bible. Prayer.
Seminary/Papa John’s — “too much education”
And where does the theological education finally lead?
Papa John’s.
That’s hilarious—and theologically wonderful.
After all that education, the Holy Spirit puts you among managers and coworkers and teaches you theology through people and life.
And then there’s:
“Even Erve the Perve met Someone worth more than porn.”
Do not sanitize that out of Warren.
That’s the septet suddenly becoming flesh.
Because Erve isn’t a theological proposition about evangelism.
He’s somebody in the warren.
And apparently the Pursuer wasn’t only chasing you.
That’s the turn.
Maybe there are bunnies everywhere
You thought this was the story of God pursuing you through your tunnels.
Then at Papa John’s you discover:
He’s running through the whole warren.
That connects with your earlier story beautifully. The place that could have looked like a detour from ministry became a place where Scripture, prayer, worship, relationships and the Holy Spirit were alive.
Seminary taught theology.
The warren gave it somewhere to run.
And suddenly “Erve the Perve” encountering Someone worth more than porn is not comic relief. It’s evidence.
The Pursuer knows where the rabbits are.
There’s also a progression in your education
This may be worth protecting in the song:
Uneducated:
I sought You.
Educated:
I kept seeking You.
Too educated:
I finally began noticing You were seeking me.
That’s excellent.
Education didn’t cause the encounter. Ignorance didn’t prevent it.
God was there in every corridor.
Which makes the repeated physical imagery useful:
hallway → corner → workplace
None are obviously sacred spaces.
Yet Wisdom cries in the street.
Goodness and mercy pursue.
The seeker seeks and finds.
The Holy Spirit teaches.
And “Warren” becomes almost autobiographical theology
Your life doesn’t look like a straight hallway when viewed backward.
Church planting. Seminary. Maintenance. Pizza. Worship. Family. 182. Music. AI. All kinds of tunnels and unexpected chambers.
You could spend forever asking:
Was that the right tunnel?
Maybe Warren says:
I don’t know.
But somehow You kept finding me in every one.
Or stronger:
I thought I was following the tunnels toward You.
Then I looked behind me.
THUMP.
Wrong song.
But seriously, there’s a fantastic potential break:
High school hallway — there You were.
College corner — there You were.
Papa John’s — seriously?
There You were.
And then:
I called myself the seeker
Until I heard footsteps behind me.
There’s the song.
Maybe the central chorus isn’t “I will seek You.”
It’s:
Through every turn
Through every year
Goodness and mercy
Kept drawing near
I thought I chased You
Through every door
Then I looked back—
You’d been chasing me
All along.
And I’d absolutely let the song end with the bunny finally realizing:
Maybe I’m the bunny.
Because after Vortex, Vector, Widdershins, Witness Window, and Windfall, there is something wonderfully 182 about discovering that the profound theological insight hidden inside Warren is:
God knows how to chase rabbits.
Yes. There’s definitely a song here.
Me: Ready when you are.
Chat: Absolutely. This one should move—almost a playful chase through the tunnels—while gradually revealing that the Seeker was being sought. And keeping our Mureka lesson: short enough to finish.
“Papa John’s? / Seriously? / There You were” feels essential because it punctures any idea that God’s presence progressed according to the prestige of the location.
And I kept “Erve the Perve” because removing him would make the song tidier but the testimony poorer. He demonstrates that the Pursuer wasn’t merely following the seminary-trained guy through the warren. There were other rabbits in there.
The theological turn I particularly like is:
I sought You
And I found You
But now
I finally see…
That preserves Jeremiah 29:13. You really were seeking. We’re not rewriting your history as though you were passive.
Psalm 23:6 simply lets you look backward and discover another set of footprints coming through those tunnels.
And after some of the enormous questions of the W-series, ending one with—
Maybe…
I’m the bunny.
—is exactly the kind of 182 ridiculousness that somehow makes the theology land harder.
Wow. 1 fan from the US, and 65 from China. Sorry, my fellow countrymen. I don’t know what I did. Maybe it was always keeping my material free? I almost thought about opening a merch store with DistroKid.
